Code of Conduct & Participation Guidelines – Trend Hacker 1. PurposeParticipants are tasked with building a product that is both useful and trend-driven—something that solves a real problem (big or small) while also being entertaining, meme-worthy, and shareable.
Projects should aim to capture attention, spark interaction, and perform well on social media, as engagement and virality are part of the judging criteria.
This event is designed to foster creativity, collaboration, and experimentation for both beginner and experienced builders.
By participating in Trend Hacker, all participants agree to abide by this Code of Conduct and the participation rules outlined below.
2. Respect and InclusivityTreat all participants, mentors, volunteers, sponsors, and organizers with respect.
We encourage bold, funny, and meme-inspired ideas—but not at the expense of others.
Discrimination, harassment, or offensive behavior (verbal, written, or visual) will not be tolerated.
We celebrate diversity: participants of all backgrounds, identities, and skill levels are welcome.
Examples of unacceptable behavior include, but are not limited to:
- Intimidation, threats, or abusive language
- Offensive or harmful jokes, even if framed as “memes”
- Unwelcome sexual attention or advances
- Disrespect toward differing opinions, experiences, or skill levels
- Teams must consist of 1–3 registered participants
- Participants may only be on one team
- Cross-team discussion and idea-sharing are encouraged, but final submissions must be your team’s original work
- Use of memes, trends, and internet culture is encouraged—but do not plagiarize existing products or projects
- Proper attribution must be given for any external assets, datasets, or inspirations
Your project should balance:
- Usefulness – Does it provide value?
- Trendiness – Is it relevant, timely, or culturally engaging?
- Entertainment – Is it fun, humorous, or shareable?
- All participants must register and sign up for a HackMelbourne membership
- Participants must be currently enrolled university students in Victoria, Australia
Official announcements and livestream links will be shared on the HackMelbourne Discord server.
When participating online:
- Keep discussions relevant, constructive, and respectful

All reports will be handled seriously and confidentially where possible.

Serious cases may be escalated further if necessary.
All decisions by the organizing committee are final.

and most importantly, have fun!
